Summary
This was a beautifully magical, heartwarming and festive holiday movie, with wonderful animation, gorgeous directing, good characters, a heartfelt story and neat voice acting.
What's it about?
A lazy postman gets given a task by his father to deliver 6000 letters in a very mean-spirited island named Smeerensburg within one year. At first, Jesper Johansen had a very hard time delivering letters until when he met a lonely woodcutter named Klaus. With his help they deliver more letters as well as delivering toys to children and eventually Jesper comes up with the idea of delivering presents to good little boys and girls once a year on Christmas Day. However, the leader of the Krums and Ellingboes do not want to live together in peace and harmony and try to stop Jesper and Klaus from delivering toys to children. Can Klaus and Jesper deliver the Christmas presents to children on Christmas Day in time, or will the Krums and Ellingboes fight one another for years to come?
The good bits
I loved the animation, how they combined hand drawn and computer generated animation. I liked how joyful and fun the characters were. I liked how the plot seemed to be about a struggling postman who's having a very hard time delivering letters that ends with a magical tone. The voice acting was believable, and the actors made the actors feel the way the way they were intended to feel, which helped the viewer to empathise with the characters.
The bad bits
The only things I didn't like about it was that although the film was titled Klaus, instead of focusing mostly on Klaus, it focused mostly on Jesper. There was one mini sub-plot (in the spoilers) which was a bit of a cliché.
What is it similar to?
It was one of the best holiday films of the 21st century I have ever seen, and one of the most unique animated films I have seen in the past decade. The style of animation was similar to Spider-man: Into The Spider-verse.
Oscar's recommendation
This film made me so happy and hopeful, and full of Christmas spirit. I can very well recommend this film to anyone who celebrates Christmas and would like to see new animation like nothing they've seen before.

Swearing
There were some moments in which some of the characters say “god” which some might feel is blasphemy.
Violence
There was a lot of fighting between the Ellingboes and the Krums. There was mild violence and the Krums and Ellingboes used weapons like pitchforks, torches, guns, knives, daggers and clubs. In one scene a woman slices dead fish and the insides of the fish can be seen clearly. There was also some slapstick.
Fear
Both the town of Smeerensburg and the dead fish can be quite frightening. Klaus, when he first appears, can look rather intimidating especially when Jasper worries that he will chop him into pieces, even though he would later on look very friendly. A dead body is implied to be carried twice.
Autism alerts
Sensory details
The story of Klaus and his dead wife can be sad. There are sudden noises, mostly from the Krums and Ellingboes whenever they fight.

Skills
Some people with autism might feel anxious to know when the Christmas scenes will come up. You will need to wait for more than half an hour. You might need patience because you have to wait for more than half an hour to get to the Christmassy moments. Prepare yourself to witness fighting and slicing of scary dead fish. Some people with autism might also need a parent or guardian to help explain the story as they go along.
